Porsche 911 GT2R, coming to auction

The Iconic Porsche 911 (993) GT2R Set to Stun at Auction

Automotive enthusiasts, brace yourselves for an unmissable opportunity to witness a true legend of the motorsport world go under the hammer. On Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Stoneleigh Park in Coventry, Iconic Auctioneers will host “The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2025 – Competition Cars,” featuring one of the rarest and most sought-after Porsches ever produced: the 1995 Porsche 911 (993) GT2R.

Conceived as a race-focused evolution of the flagship 993 Turbo, the GT2R was born from Porsche’s ambition to dominate motorsport. This car was built to comply with homologation regulations, combining breathtaking performance with unmistakable style. With only 43 examples ever constructed by the factory, the GT2R occupies a revered place in Porsche history, blending engineering brilliance with exclusivity.

The 911 GT2R took the already potent 993 Turbo and pushed it to a new level of performance. Shedding the all-wheel-drive system for rear-wheel drive, it stayed true to the demands of racing. Its aggressive bodywork, featuring lightweight aluminum doors, a bi-plane rear wing, and flared fiberglass wheel arches, was designed for aerodynamics and weight reduction. The heart of this beast is a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine, producing an astonishing 450 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant, paired with a 6-speed close-ratio manual gearbox, rockets the GT2R from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and onward to a top speed of 190 mph.

Chassis #393094, the car set to feature at the auction, is a shining example of the GT2R’s legacy. Built in July 1995, this car boasts a fascinating history. Originally ordered as a race-spec vehicle with road-registration paperwork, it was shipped to Nagoya, Japan, where it participated in Porsche Japan-organized track days and was meticulously cared for. After its import to the UK in 2017, it continued to receive exceptional maintenance, including an engine overhaul by renowned specialist Neil Bainbridge at BS Motorsport in May 2024.

Presented in dazzling Grand Prix White, the car retains its race-bred interior with a single Recaro bucket seat, welded-in roll cage, and Alcantara-trimmed MOMO steering wheel. Further upgrades, such as KKK turbos, high-lift camshafts, and a carbon flat-floor kit, enhance its competitive pedigree.

As one of only a handful of GT2Rs registered for road use, this example offers unparalleled exclusivity. Its immaculate condition and extensive documentation make it a collector’s dream. Whether destined for a private collection or a historic motorsport event, this GT2R is ready to dazzle.

With its rarity and pedigree, experts anticipate this iconic Porsche could command a winning bid between £800,000 and £900,000, though spirited bidding could push the hammer price even higher. For Porsche aficionados and motorsport collectors, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a piece of racing history.  READ MORE …
