Well we like to feature the Unusual around here and this one does not disappoint. This Jaguar was converted into a pickup quite some years ago, and it is assume (but not confirmed) that it was for the famous TOP GEAR TV Show.
It’s registered correctly as a Jaguar pickup and the eBay listing is generating quite a stir. This head turner is getting LOTS of bids and at the time of writing this piece, there was still over a week remaining !!
There are many photos, showing the work that has gone into this one-off build, and the listing doesn’t disappoint in the detail department either.
Here’s an excerpt of the eBay advert;
“This Jaguar was converted to a Pick Up in the 1980s allegedly for the Top Gear television programme.
The V5 was changed properly to Jaguar Pick-up, probably the only one in the world.
The scaffold and harness points were fitted to stop the camera people falling out, it was painted matt black to avoid reflections when filming.
I bought it quarter of a century ago intending to return it to its original red. Remove the scaffolding or use it to put a van back or canvas back on it. I was looking forward to entering it into Jaguar concours events to see how many points I could get for originality!
However the Head Gasket had failed so I removed the head and discovered the 4.2L slotted block was scrap. I bought another engine, fitted it and that engine had the same problem. The 1980s 4.2 L engines are very badly engineered, rubbish.
I lost interest and parked it up in the shed.
In 2014 I bought a 3.6 XJ40 drove it home [ 100 plus miles plus ] and removed the engine, gearbox, wiring loom etc to replace the 4.2L.
I then ended up with another 3.6 XJ40 for spares ….” READ MORE …
