An S-Type parking-brake warning is a question for the parking-brake controller, even when a generic engine reader connects without difficulty. On the later 3.0 V6 petrol, confirmed Jaguar-aware access can provide a fault report and supporting information that engine-emissions mode does not request.

Which vehicles this guide covers

This guide covers the naturally aspirated S-Type 3.0 V6 petrol in the checked 2006–2008 catalogue group. It excludes earlier year groups, the V8s, S-Type R and diesel. Establish the actual build and fitted electronic parking brake before choosing a tool.

The owner account identifies a 2007 S-Type V6 but does not explicitly state its fuel or displacement. It is used as a same-model symptom example, not as proof of this petrol specification or LR V3.0 compatibility. The product evidence comes separately from the selected 3.0 petrol group.

What the extra diagnostic access buys you

Here, “generic” means the standard emissions-related OBD/EOBD mode. It can retrieve supported engine-emissions codes, readiness information, freeze frames and standard live values. It does not interrogate every controller in the car. Some multi-brand scanners also have enhanced Jaguar coverage; the useful difference is confirmed access to your vehicle and required module, rather than the badge on the tool.

Supported engine P-codes, standard data and emissions readiness remain useful generic-reader tasks. The difference for a Parkbrake Fault complaint is reaching PBM directly, rather than assuming the engine result describes every controller in the car.

A researched example from this vehicle

In a 2007 S-Type V6 owner report, the electronic parking brake remained applied and the dashboard displayed Parkbrake Fault. The owner described attempts to disconnect components, followed by continuing warnings. No full diagnostic report or verified repair was supplied.

This article does not reproduce the disconnection method. It illustrates why a warning needs the system’s recorded evidence and appropriate professional assessment, rather than an improvised release being treated as a cure. Engine and fuel details remain unconfirmed in that individual account.

Jaguar’s JTB00208 bulletin includes applicable 2003–2008 S-Type VINs and describes parking-brake warnings and C1801-00/C1802-00 after relevant mechanical work without the required recalibration. It is a documented example of why service history matters; it is not a diagnosis of the owner’s car.

How a Jaguar-aware reader can dig deeper

Read PBM and preserve the complete code, suffix and current or stored state. That can distinguish a recorded parking-brake condition from a general dashboard message and identify the next question for an equipped garage. It cannot establish the repair by itself.

If supported on the actual build, accompanying status or live values may help a technician understand what the controller saw. Ask for the particular switch, supply or position values needed; the lookup’s live-data category does not enumerate them.

A service-history clue and a fault-reading result are different kinds of evidence. Neither establishes that your handheld can perform Jaguar’s required service routine. Diagnose the fitted system before considering any command that moves the brake.

Other questions the engine scan does not answer

ABS/DSC warnings need braking-controller access as well. A PBM connection alone does not establish access to every brake-related system or explain several simultaneous messages.

For a gearbox complaint on an automatic, record the fitted transmission and ask about its own diagnostic coverage. Do not transfer an owner’s gearbox servicing instructions to this engine merely because both cars are S-Types.

iCarsoft LR V3.0 and the evidence behind the shortlist

The official iCarsoft function lookup, reviewed on 3 November 2026, gives the route LR V3.0 → JAGUAR → S_Type → 2006-2008 → Normally aspirated V6 3.0L. The PBM (Parking brake control module) card lists Read Fault Code, Live Data, Module Information, Read Freeze Data and Clear Fault Memory. These are documentary catalogue entries, rather than an Unusual Cars test of an individual car.

The selected PBM card lists fault reading, live data, module information, freeze data, clearing and an actuation-test category. This guide shortlists the reading route only. It promises no brake-release, service-mode or calibration operation.

A “Live Data” category does not establish every available parameter. Ask the supplier to confirm the particular values you need. Shared catalogue groups can contain equipment absent from your car, and a service-menu heading is not proof of a fitted system. Fault reading does not establish reset, active-test, coding, calibration or programming support.

Hardware, updates and the buying check

The manufacturer’s LR V3.0 page describes a standalone handheld, a 16-pin cable and PC-based updates, with lifetime free software upgrades advertised. Confirm current supply, update requirements and support before ordering.

Identify the 3.0 petrol engine, build/model year and actual parking-brake task. Ask whether the current tool can read PBM, which status values it shows and whether it exports a useful report. Treat any requested service routine as a separate confirmation.

Compare a Jaguar-aware handheld, an enhanced multi-brand alternative and an equipped Jaguar specialist against the same task. An owner’s report from another scanner is not proof that LR V3.0 will produce the same result. Ask about current software, genuine supply, warranty and return terms. Check compatibility privately using the build details or VIN; registration year alone may be insufficient.

Is a vehicle-specific scanner worth the investment?

For an owner maintaining a later S-Type, verified PBM access is a practical improvement over repeatedly scanning only the engine when the brake warning returns. It can preserve evidence before a garage visit and help explain why previous work is relevant.

For a one-off locked or dragging brake, professional diagnosis and safe handling take priority. A scanner is an information investment, not a substitute for the equipment and judgement needed to assess a brake fault.

Preserve a useful report before clearing anything

Save the reporting controller, complete code and suffix, current or stored status, available freeze-frame details and tool/software version. Record the exact warning, when it appeared, operating conditions, recent work and symptoms. Keep modules that did not communicate separate from modules that connected and reported no codes. Clearing removes evidence; it does not repair a fault.

Limits and professional help

Brake, stability, suspension or transmission warnings and abnormal vehicle behaviour need appropriate professional assessment. A cleared message is not evidence of a repaired fault or safe operation.

This is a guide to choosing a reading route. It gives no brake-release, roof override, air-suspension repair, forced-regeneration, key-programming or security-access instructions, and guarantees no coding, calibration, programming or active-test functions. A scan cannot certify mechanical health or safe operation.
