The Ford Escort XR3 Perana is an ultra-rare piece of South African motoring history, built by legendary tuner Basil Green, known for his high-performance Perana models. Only 187 of these special XR3s were produced, making them an exceptionally rare find today. Unlike a standard XR3, the Perana was built for track and road use, featuring factory-fitted performance upgrades, including a full roll cage, uprated suspension, and a Perana full exhaust system. This example, No. 20 of 187, is a true survivor, retaining all its original components and even coming with its original back seat still in its wrapper.
Under the bonnet, it boasts a tuned 1.6-litre engine with twin 40 Weber carburetors, a high-lift cam, and Verney pulleys, delivering a raw and engaging driving experience. Adjustable decambered front springs and an adjustable top brace further enhance its handling, making it a serious track weapon.
