Once upon a time, young drivers wanted fast, fun, obnoxious cars. Now? They’re voluntarily choosing to drive cars so dull that watching paint dry is actually more exciting.

This car isn’t just slow. It’s soul-drainingly, eye-wateringly dull.
🚗 0-60? Eventually. Maybe.
🚗 Handling? Like trying to steer a fridge on roller skates.
🚗 Style? The car equivalent of a school geography teacher in a fleece.
And yet, somehow, young people are driving these voluntarily.
They spend their weekends scouring Primark for corduroy trousers, discussing energy tariffs, and learning the rules of crown green bowling. If they drive past a retirement village, the residents probably wave back, assuming they’re one of their own.
But… Why?
We tried to understand why anyone under 80 would willingly drive one of these diesel-powered sleep aids. Here’s what they had to say:
💬 “It’s practical.” (Translation: I have fully given up on fun.)
💬 “It’s good on fuel.” (Translation: I never plan on overtaking anything in my life.)
💬 “It’s different.” (Translation: I enjoy watching people question my choices.)
💬 “It’s comfy.” (Translation: I’m already mentally 76 years old.)
And let’s not blame insurance black boxes either—these cars aren’t any slower because of insurance restrictions. They were already this slow straight out of the factory.
We used to dream of Skylines, Type Rs, and hot hatches with questionable modifications. Now? Kids are out there deliberately choosing 4-wheeled mediocrity.
It could be worse, though. Thankfully, they’ve not yet discovered the Toyota Corolla.
