MANN-FILTER lists HU 7010 z as the oil filter and C 22 020 as the engine air filter for its CLA 220 CDI application with model types 117.303/305, engine OM 651.930 and output 130 kW (177 hp). Treat those as manufacturer catalogue references for that application, then match your car before ordering. An oil approval, a “CLA220” badge or a B5 reminder is not a filter-fitment check.
Which CLA does this cover?
This guide starts with the first-generation C117 diesel Coupé. The relevant catalogue row covers September 2014 to March 2019 production and uses the earlier CDI name. It does not establish fitment for every car registered during those years, the petrol CLA220 or the later C118. Compare the model type, engine, output and build information, rather than relying on a registration-year search alone.
A supplier can check the vehicle details privately. Ask it to confirm the application in writing and retain that confirmation with the order. The table below identifies the product references we checked; it is not a complete service kit or a list of items due at this visit.
Oil filter and engine air filter: two separate purchases
| Item | Manufacturer reference | Useful cross-check |
|---|---|---|
| Engine oil filter | MANN HU 7010 z | Its product page lists a cartridge with gasket; dimensions are 64 mm outer diameter, 31 mm inner diameter and 110 mm height. |
| Engine air filter | MANN C 22 020 | The product page lists a panel measuring 220 × 236 × 58 mm. |
Dimensions help expose an obvious listing mismatch, but they do not prove that a different manufacturer’s filter is interchangeable. Use that manufacturer’s own application and reference. Check exactly which seals or other components are included; a photo of several parts is not an itemised contents list.
Why a catalogue may say CDI rather than 220d
MANN’s table identifies the application by model and engine codes as well as the badge wording. Its live pages also contain a 2,148cc entry for these CLA rows, whereas the Mercedes UK brochure used in our maintenance guide states 2,143cc. We have not silently corrected the manufacturer catalogue or used that conflicting capacity field to identify a car.
The part references agree between MANN’s printed catalogue and current product pages for the stated coded application. That supports reporting the catalogue match. It does not remove the need to resolve a seller’s contradictory vehicle description before purchase. If the output, body type or build range differs, ask for an application-level check rather than assuming the closest-looking row applies.
Checking a service kit
- Obtain the itemised contents: each filter’s brand, complete reference and quantity.
- Match each component separately to your vehicle. A correct oil filter does not validate the air, cabin or fuel filter bundled beside it.
- For any oil supplied, check the Mercedes approval independently of the filters.
- Confirm the work due from the applicable maintenance information and previous invoices.
- Ask the garage whether it accepts customer-supplied parts before placing an order.
The CLA220d engine-oil guide deals with oil approval and capacity. Keeping that decision separate makes a kit comparison much clearer: the correct cartridge and an unsuitable oil can still appear in the same basket.
When should the filters be replaced?
A parts catalogue identifies applications; it is not Mercedes’ replacement schedule. Neither the date range in the table nor the number of filters in a kit tells you when replacement is due. Request the applicable maintenance requirement and compare it with the last recorded operation.
If a quote includes an air filter, ask whether it is scheduled work, an inspection finding or an optional addition. Record the answer alongside the price. This guide does not assign a fixed UK air-filter interval or turn B5 into a universal replacement list.
Make the invoice useful
Ask for the actual oil-filter and air-filter references, the work performed, mileage and date. “Filters changed” is ambiguous if several different filters are fitted to the car. A complete record should make the next quotation easier to assess.
Use the CLA220d maintenance guide to organise that history and the UK service-cost guide to compare fitting and service quotes. Return to the Servicing & Maintenance hub for the wider guide collection.
