Mercedes B200 Turbo W245 Scanner Guide: CVT, ESP and Body

For an original B200 Turbo, establish manual or AUTOTRONIC before comparing scanners. A gearbox warning calls for different information from an engine-emissions code, an ESP complaint or a door fault. Broader Mercedes compatibility alone cannot answer those questions.

Which B200 Turbo 245 cars are covered?

This guide covers UK B200 Turbo cars from the 2005 introduction to before the 2008 facelift. The first B-Class is the 245 series, commonly called W245. The contemporaneous UK launch report and UK model chronology establish that period. The latter identifies the facelift in 2008. Exact build, rather than registration year alone, decides which side of that boundary a car belongs to.

Included versionEngineGearbox branch
Original B200 Turbo 245 five-doorM266 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder, 193PSSix-speed manual or optional AUTOTRONIC continuously variable automatic

The manufacturer launch brochure documents the original Turbo and CVT arrangement; the archived April 2006 UK manufacturer price list and manufacturer UK historic derivatives corroborate UK availability. Period documents differ between 2,034 and 2,035cc, so the badge, engine family and actual build are more useful identifiers than that documentary difference. The club engine reference identifies the M266 family.

Excluded are the facelift range, the naturally aspirated B200, other petrol engines, B180/B200 CDI, W246 and later cars, imports and materially modified systems. The scope stops deliberately before the facelift; it does not claim the B200 Turbo name ceased then. A “B200” search result can describe a very different car.

What B200 Turbo owners actually ask

A 2006 B200 Turbo owner discussion asks about a transmission warning and reported fluid on the floor. Although filed in a later B-Class forum section, the opening post explicitly identifies a 2006 Turbo automatic. This overseas report establishes the question only; replies do not establish a verified cause or repair.

The relevant diagnostic request names the actual CVT controller and asks for its complete report and supported data. A scan cannot certify the condition of a fluid leak or guarantee that continued use is appropriate. Preserve the complaint history for professional assessment instead of treating a generic transmission code as an order for a replacement part.

Check your exact model, year, connection and required systems. Original pre-facelift B200 Turbo 245 only. Confirm manual or AUTOTRONIC CVT and the correct build-date branch. Check ESP, body and fitted opening-roof enquiries separately; a B-Class badge is not exact controller proof.

Transmission, ESP and body access need separate checks

ABS / ESPESP reading entries in both referencesAn engine connection is not an ESP report.
Electric power steeringSeparate ES entryConfirm the affected system and information.
Body / doorsSAM, front/rear door and steering-column entriesNamed fitted controller required, not a blanket body guarantee.
Opening roofOCP listed, but exact roof-controller/status reading not establishedA panoramic option is not a coverage certificate.
SuspensionNo exact suspension-controller access establishedDo not infer an electronic system from selective or sports damping terminology.

The V2 V01.05 reference and V3 reference were reviewed for B245 separately from A169. Both use up-to-November-2005 and from-December-2005 sections. Similar engines and gearbox names do not transfer the A-Class controller list to the B-Class, and this early diagnostic division is not the 2008 facelift.

The manufacturer brochure distinguishes the six-speed manual from AUTOTRONIC and describes a panoramic louvred sunroof option and selective damping. Identify fitted equipment. The broad body family and overhead-panel entry do not establish every roof input. A specialist report is a sensible option for one roof complaint when exact handheld access remains unconfirmed.

On a manual car, an apparent clutch or mechanical selection problem may need workshop inspection instead of CVT diagnostics. On an automatic, ask for the CVT’s own report. The additional controller evidence supports a more useful enquiry, without promising that the scanner alone will identify the failed part.

What can a basic OBD2 reader tell you?

On a compatible car, generic EOBD/OBD2 can provide supported emissions-related codes, readiness information, freeze-frame and engine data. Some transmission-related codes may appear through that route. It does not amount to a complete transmission, brake/stability, body, fitted roof or suspension report.

A compatible basic reader is a sensible choice for an isolated engine-emissions question. Pay for manufacturer-aware reading when the required controller or information lies outside that task.

Enhanced reading may add controller identification, its own fault descriptions/status and supported data. Record modules that could not communicate as well as those returning faults. “No faults”, “not fitted” and “cannot communicate” are different findings; none independently diagnoses an intermittent or mechanical problem.

The current LAUNCH Creader manufacturer page describes Mercedes-specific configurations and combines 2.0/3.0 products. An earlier regional Creader page describes a different generation. Confirm the actual unit, included brand licence and update arrangement. A marketplace title, family name or X431 branding does not establish identical coverage.

A Mercedes-specific LAUNCH reader is a credible candidate to investigate. Ask for the supplied hardware/software version, required controller reading, delivered UK price, return terms and any additional-brand charges. No purchase link or owner’s possession of a tool establishes its exact capabilities.

The iCarsoft V2 and V3 product pages describe standalone handhelds and free software updates. Obtain a current UK quote including required cables or adapters. A model listing and a reference PDF do not guarantee the present reading task; the two products need separate confirmation.

The official UK CRP129 EVO V3 page listed £346.80 including VAT with lifetime Wi-Fi updates on review. Its four-system scope can be useful after confirmation, but is not evidence for roof, body or suspension reading. The UK CRP919S page listed £514.80 including VAT with 24 months of updates. Ask what renewal costs and what remains usable afterwards.

Autel’s MD906 Pro documentation offers another reputable multi-system candidate and describes lifetime software updates for that product. Confirm the UK package, support, exact vehicle/controller and complete interface. Compare the delivered setup and future costs with a specialist’s report and interpretation. For one unresolved fault, the report may cost less and answer more.

What about legitimate Mercedes diagnostics?

Ask a Mercedes specialist which legitimately licensed equipment suits the chassis and required reading. Request controller identity, complete codes/status, relevant data and a list of modules that could not be read. A quotation for a “STAR scan” should state what information it includes.

The XENTRY Diagnosis Lite manual describes a commercial Windows setup, supplied hardware, 16-pin cable, contract, StartKey and time credits; the UK appears among eligible markets. Current eligibility, chassis support and total hardware/software/time-credit costs need confirming. A supplied cable does not prove a different legacy connection.

The XENTRY Pass Thru EU FAQ limits eligibility to qualifying Euro 5/VI vehicles. Do not assume these deliberately older petrol scopes qualify. Check actual emissions certification and current conditions. An OBD socket or included DAS software does not remove that restriction; confirm the interface and controller separately. Copied-software bundles are not the legitimate alternative. For occasional use, a professional reading often avoids a disproportionate setup.

What to ask before buying or booking

Provide build date, engine, gearbox, body style, original market and fitted equipment. Where necessary, supply a VIN privately to a reputable supplier. Name the task: controller identity, full codes and status, and the particular data item needed. Obtain confirmation for the current unit, interface and database, plus return terms if the agreed reading is unavailable.

For brake, restraint, roof or suspension warnings, follow the handbook and obtain appropriate professional assessment. This guide provides no safety-critical repair, coding, programming, calibration, active-test, key or security-access procedure. An available menu does not establish that using it is safe or appropriate.

Common scanner questions

Does a more expensive tool guarantee a diagnosis?

No. It may obtain more information from supported controllers. Interpretation and electrical or mechanical investigation may still be necessary. A code is not an instruction to replace the named component.

Can I clear the warning and see whether it returns?

Preserve the original report and relevant operating circumstances first. Clearing can remove useful evidence and does not repair the cause. Do not use a cleared warning as reassurance about a safety-related system.

Is a service reminder the same as a diagnostic fault?

No. Maintenance reminders and fault information answer different questions. See the ASSYST explanation for wider context and use the maintenance system applicable to the actual build. This guide is not a reset procedure.

Sources and limitations

Research reviewed: 16 October 2026. This is documentary research. Unusual Cars has not independently tested the vehicles, scanners or functions. Owner discussions establish questions and reported experiences, not diagnoses, failure frequency, universal compatibility or verified repairs. Exact functions vary by vehicle build, module, software, interface and tool version.

Check current UK prices, package contents, update terms and seller support before buying. Sources are linked beside the relevant claims. Check archived/reference findings against current compatibility information and the actual task. Prices, packages, update terms and commercial destinations were checked on the review date and can change.
