Mercedes GLA180/GLA200 X156 ASSYST PLUS Servicing Guide

A B1 message on a facelift GLA180 or GLA200 does not tell you whether gearbox work belongs on this visit. Start with the complete ASSYST PLUS message, the actual gearbox and the service history. Then obtain the current vehicle-specific work sheet and an itemised quote. A scanner is useful only if it supplies additional information you need.

Which GLA180 and GLA200 X156 are covered?

This guide covers UK facelift X156 front-wheel-drive petrol cars matching the Mercedes UK specification effective from 1 June 2018 production. The GLA180 has a 1,595cc turbo four-cylinder engine rated at 122PS/90kW; the GLA200 uses a 1,595cc engine rated at 156PS/115kW. Both have six-speed manual and 7G-DCT seven-speed automatic entries. A GLA200 badge does not mean a 2.0-litre engine.

The facelift belongs to the broad 2017-to-replacement X156 branch, but the dated brochure does not establish the first or last UK build of each variant. Identify the actual car, particularly around the facelift and successor change. This guide excludes pre-facelift X156, H247, diesels, GLA250/4MATIC, AMG, imports and materially modified systems. The two petrol badges can share a work-planning explanation; they do not automatically share every part or due item.

The owner question: why is gearbox work missing from a B1 sheet?

A 2018 GLA200 petrol owner asks for a B1 maintenance sheet and then questions a workshop code and the absence of automatic-gearbox work. The French-language discussion contains differing mileage suggestions before a reply refers to the gearbox identity. Its market and full build are not independently established, so neither that interval nor the attached sheet is adopted as a UK specification.

The useful question is whether the workshop has reconciled all the separately due operations for the actual car. Ask it to show the basis for including or excluding gearbox work, using the correct transmission and previous invoices. Do not treat “B1”, a forum distance or the absence of a line on a shared sheet as the answer. Request the current sheet for your car rather than downloading someone else’s.

Read the GLA reminder before buying equipment

The Mercedes-hosted 2018 X156 manual, printed pages 309–310 describes upcoming, due and overdue service messages and a remaining time or distance. Its ordinary Serv. menu contains ASSYST PLUS on matching controls. Record the complete display, mileage and last service date when booking. The display is not an engine oil-level measurement.

A and B identify basic service types. The manual makes its additional-character explanation country-dependent, so it is not a universal UK decoder for B1 or another suffix. This English regional manual supports display behaviour, not a UK parts or replacement-interval schedule. Use your matching handbook and the current UK service information for the work.

Build a GLA180 or GLA200 work list

Establish before accepting the quoteQuestion it resolves
Exact facelift petrol variant and transmissionIs the sheet for this GLA180/GLA200 and manual or DCT?
Last dates, mileages and completed operationsWhich extra jobs are due or undocumented?
Routine A/B scope and separately scheduled workAre two quotations covering the same work?
Actual use, including frequent short tripsDoes the workshop need to account for demanding use?
Itemised materials and completed recordWhat will be used, done and documented?

Ask which engine oil/filter, air/cabin-filter, spark-plug and brake-fluid operations are due now. These are categories to establish, not a parts kit automatically required at each B service. Have the workshop identify the applicable oil approval and parts for the actual engine. No oil capacity, viscosity or part number is prescribed here.

Manual and 7G-DCT need different enquiries

The manual car does not inherit a DCT oil/filter operation from an automatic with the same service message. For 7G-DCT, request the applicable maintenance requirement, its age/mileage basis and evidence of previous work. Do not transfer a conventional Mercedes seven-speed automatic schedule to a dual-clutch gearbox.

If the car also has a shift complaint or a warning, book that as a separate investigation. Supported transmission faults and data can give a workshop information that generic emissions OBD2 does not provide. They cannot establish that scheduled fluid work was performed or that its materials were correct. The current sheet and dated work record remain essential.

A service letter is not the complete maintenance schedule

Mercedes UK’s ServiceCare v3.1 terms, page 5 refer to the Electronic Service Sheet and distinguish routine oil/filter work from model-, age- and mileage-dependent items such as filters, plugs and automatic-transmission consumables. These plan terms explain the framework; they are not the exact schedule or a promise of plan eligibility for your car. Obtain the current applicable sheet through the workshop, using the Mercedes UK service-sheet route where appropriate.

Have scheduled work, inspection-led repairs and optional extras identified separately. Agree what will be done and what the invoice will record. A generic service package with no due-item reconciliation may be poor value even if its headline price is lower. No current UK servicing price is inferred from historical forum quotations.

Does a Mercedes-specific reader help with ASSYST PLUS?

It can add information only when the exact service reading is supported. Generic emissions OBD2 does not provide a vehicle-specific maintenance sheet or central service history. A manufacturer-aware reader may reach controllers beyond emissions OBD2, but that is not proof it can display the workshop code, due items or every ASSYST field on this GLA180/GLA200. Ask for the precise output you need before buying.

The iCarsoft Mercedes V2 reference lists IC (instrument cluster) in its GLA156 section; the V3 reference separately lists IC and TCM with reading columns in GLA(156). These are documentary leads for cluster and transmission reading, not proof of specific ASSYST fields on a facelift GLA180 or GLA200. Ask for evidence of the exact due-date or workshop-code output if that is the reason to buy. No full service sheet or central-history access is established.

LAUNCH’s Creader Elite manufacturer page and the Autel MD906 Pro manufacturer page describe broader diagnostics and service functions. Neither headline establishes the specific ASSYST reading required here. The iCarsoft V2 and V3 product pages also need the same task-by-task check. Do not choose by manufacturer badge or buy solely because “oil reset” appears in a feature list.

For a cost comparison, the official UK LAUNCH CRP129 EVO V3 listing advertises lifetime Wi-Fi updates; check its current VAT-inclusive price; CRP919S was £514.80 including VAT with two years of updates. The CRP129 listing names engine, transmission, ABS and SRS diagnostics; it does not establish instrument-cluster access. Neither package is an ASSYST recommendation. Confirm delivery, included software, later update costs, warranty and the exact reading before purchase. For other tools request the full UK package price rather than relying on a marketplace variant name.

A legitimately licensed XENTRY Diagnosis Lite route involves an eligible passenger-car setup, compatible interface, suitable computer and licences. Confirm actual vehicle eligibility and ask the provider what its quote includes. That setup may cost more than a one-off specialist appointment; possessing diagnostic software is not proof of permission to create a central service record. Unlicensed copies are not a recommended route.

After servicing: check the work and the record

Keep the completed work sheet, invoice and dated service report. Mercedes UK describes its Digital Service Report as a central record, with owner/retailer access routes. Confirm access for your vehicle and account and ask the servicing provider how the completed work will be recorded. An invoice and a dashboard reset are not substitutes for checking the available service record.

The matching owner manual places reminder resetting after completed service and directs accidental-reset correction to a qualified workshop. If a message remains after a visit, check what was completed and ask that workshop to reconcile it. If the reminder was reset without the work, the work is still outstanding. No hidden-menu reset sequence, coding, calibration or service-record writing function is recommended here.

GLA180/GLA200 ASSYST PLUS questions

Do I need a scanner just to see when the service is due?

Usually the matching ordinary owner menu is the starting point. Obtain the current service sheet and quote for the work due. Pay for a reader or interpreted scan when it adds confirmed information you actually need, rather than treating a purchase as part of every service.

Can I decode a suffix into a fixed list of parts?

The reviewed manual does not establish a universal UK petrol decoder. The full display, actual build, gearbox, age, mileage, usage and completed history belong in the enquiry. Our workshop-code explanation distinguishes that workshop information from the dashboard message.

Does a reset prove the car has been serviced?

No. Confirm the completed operations and records. A changed countdown does not prove plugs, brake fluid or gearbox work were done, and it does not by itself create a central Digital Service Report.
