The facelift C63 needs an enquiry for its MCT transmission, not just a scanner advertised for the W204. Engine-only OBD2 can be useful for an emissions warning. An ESP message, unusual shifting or a body-electronics fault calls for evidence about the actual reporting controllers.
Which UK C63 AMG is covered?
This guide covers the facelift W204 saloon and S204 estate in standard 457PS specification. The 2011 UK Mercedes saloon and estate brochure documents a naturally aspirated 6,208cc V8 and AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed transmission. The marketed “6.3” designation does not mean a 6,300cc engine. The manufacturer’s facelift announcement, reproduced by MBWorld places the revised model in the 2011 launch period.
| Scope | Gearbox | Important exclusion |
|---|---|---|
| UK facelift C63 AMG saloon and estate; standard 457PS V8 | Seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT | Earlier torque-converter automatic is a separate enquiry. |
Use the 2011 facelift branch through the end of the 204 saloon/estate range as a model guide, not a certificate of exact UK first and last production days. Confirm build and transmission identity. This article excludes the C204 coupé, Performance Package versions, Edition 507, DR520, Black Series, later W205, imports and materially modified cars. These exclusions keep the initial reading task precise; related AMG badges do not establish identical software coverage.
What do C63 owners actually ask?
In a 2014 C63 owner’s possible-transmission-fault question, an ESP warning accompanies poor accelerator response and unusual downshifts. The owner had removed intake charcoal filters, so this is not evidence of a stock UK failure pattern. It illustrates why the first useful request is a report from engine, ESP and transmission controllers rather than assuming the gearbox has failed. The replies’ proposed causes are not confirmed diagnoses.
A separate C63 scanner discussion asks whether a marque-specific reader is worth buying and includes owner claims about transmission temperature. That is a useful purchasing question, not our verification of the current product. Obtain confirmation that the tool reads the actual MCT controller and the particular temperature value required. No fluid-level or servicing procedure is given here.

What controller access is documented?
The iCarsoft V2 C-Class 204 reference names ME 9.7 (AMG), ETC, ESP, SAM and door modules. The V3 C(204) reference separately names TCM, ESP and body modules. These are generation-wide references. Generic ETC/TCM entries do not independently prove the specific MCT ECU, current software or every requested live value.
| Reading task | Documentary finding | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | V2 ME 9.7 (AMG); V3 generic ME | Actual V8 ECU and relevant full codes/data. |
| MCT gearbox | V2 ETC; V3 TCM | MCT-specific communication and requested data, separately from selector. |
| ABS / ESP | Separate ESP entry | Full brake/stability report; engine codes are insufficient. |
| Body electrics | SAM and door modules | Affected fitted module and relevant status. |
| Fitted glass roof | PSD separate from overhead panel | Actual hardware and desired information. |
| Suspension | Family-wide ADS entry exists | It does not prove electronic suspension on this C63. |
AMG suspension is not proof of an ADS controller
The UK AMG section describes springs and gas-pressure dampers, with a firmer Performance suspension option. General C-Class pages discuss other suspension equipment. Do not transfer those descriptions to this specific AMG. No AIRMATIC or ABC reading is claimed. A mechanical spring, damper or bush concern may require physical assessment even when a scan is clear.
Similarly, a fitted glass sunroof is not a convertible roof. PSD and overhead-panel entries are separate leads. Name the actual roof controller when enquiring about a fault; a body-module connection alone does not promise all roof status values.
C63 questions before choosing a tool
Will a reader prove the MCT is mechanically healthy?
No. A controller report can supply supported faults and data. It cannot certify clutch condition, fluid condition or internal mechanical health. If symptoms remain unexplained, pay for an interpreted specialist investigation.
Does an ESP warning identify a wheel-speed sensor?
No. Preserve the exact warning and complete controller codes/status. Several systems can report related information, and the warning alone does not identify a replacement part.
What can a basic OBD2 reader tell you?
On a compatible vehicle, generic EOBD/OBD2 can retrieve supported emissions-related codes, readiness, freeze-frame and engine data. Some transmission-related codes may appear there. This is a useful first step for an isolated engine-emissions question. It is not a complete scan of the transmission, ABS/ESP, body, roof or suspension controllers.
Manufacturer-aware reading can add the named controller’s identification, complete fault descriptions/status and supported live information. This matters when a basic reader returns no engine codes while another system displays a warning. “No faults”, “not fitted” and “cannot communicate” are different results. Keep those distinctions in the saved report.
Which scanner or scan is worth paying for?
| Route | When it makes sense | Confirm first |
|---|---|---|
| Compatible basic reader | Supported engine-emissions question | Required codes/data and protocol. |
| LAUNCH Creader Elite Mercedes | Repeated named Mercedes reading | Actual hardware generation, supplied software and controller. |
| iCarsoft MB V2.0 / V3.0 | Repeated marque-specific tasks | Separate current build/module evidence for each product. |
| LAUNCH CRP129 EVO V3 | Confirmed engine, gearbox, ABS or SRS reading | Four-system scope does not establish body, roof or suspension. |
| LAUNCH CRP919S / Autel MD906 Pro | Broader repeated or multi-car tasks | Exact coverage and total UK cost. |
| Specialist scan and interpretation | One unresolved or unconfirmed task | Named controller, complete report and explanation. |
The LAUNCH manufacturer Creader page covers different configurations. Confirm the exact Mercedes unit, included software, delivered price and update terms. The earlier regional Creader documentation is a different-generation reference. A shared family name or marketplace title does not prove identical coverage.
The iCarsoft V2 and V3 product documentation describe standalone readers and free updates. Obtain a current delivered UK quote and specific module confirmation. The reference lists above are useful evidence, but do not make iCarsoft the automatic choice. Autel MD906 Pro documentation describes another multi-system candidate with lifetime updates; confirm its exact UK package and task.
On 20 October 2026 the official UK CRP129 EVO V3 listing showed £346.80 including VAT and lifetime Wi-Fi updates. The CRP919S listing showed £514.80 including VAT and 24 months of updates. Recheck prices, renewal costs, retained functions and support before buying. Broader marketing does not certify this exact vehicle’s controllers.
Compare the complete cost: unit, required brand licence, cables/interface, delivery, updates and support. Ask what remains usable after any update term ends. If one specialist visit can provide the necessary information and interpretation for less, buying a more expensive reader may offer little benefit. No scanner ownership or hands-on testing claim is made here.
What about legitimate Mercedes diagnostics?
Ask a Mercedes specialist which legitimately licensed system suits the actual car and requested reading. A quotation described as a STAR scan should identify what the report includes. Request controller identity, full codes/status, relevant available data and modules that could not communicate.
The XENTRY Diagnosis Lite manual describes a commercial Windows setup with interface, contract, StartKey and time credits. Confirm current UK eligibility, chassis coverage and total costs. The XENTRY Pass Thru EU FAQ limits vehicle eligibility to qualifying Euro5/VI applications. Exact certification, interface and required module still matter. A connector or a Mercedes badge alone does not settle eligibility.
For occasional owner use, professional diagnosis can avoid the cost and maintenance of a complete legitimate setup. Copied-software bundles are not the legitimate alternative. This guide makes no promise of coding, programming, calibration, active tests, key programming or security access.

What to ask before buying or booking
Provide original market, build date, engine, gearbox, body and fitted equipment. Supply a VIN privately to a reputable supplier if needed. Name the controller and the specific codes, status or data you require. Obtain confirmation for the current hardware, firmware, vehicle database and complete interface, plus return terms if the agreed reading is unavailable.
Preserve the full original scan and circumstances before clearing anything. Fault information guides an investigation; it is not a parts order. For brake, restraint, roof or suspension warnings follow the vehicle handbook and seek appropriate professional assessment. No safety-critical repair procedure is given here.
Common scanner questions
Does a more expensive scanner guarantee the answer?
No. It may retrieve more information from supported modules. Intermittent wiring, power supply and mechanical concerns can still require assessment. Buy for the information needed, not a headline function count.
Can a service reset diagnose a warning?
No. A maintenance reminder and a diagnostic fault answer different questions. See the ASSYST explanation for context, using the system applicable to your actual car. This guide is not a reset procedure.
